There will be major roadworks on the A382 starting 25th September 2025 with a road closure and diversion affecting anyone trying to get to the nursery from Newton Abbot (A38/Bovey Tracey direction will be unaffected). Sara says she hopes that everyone will still be able to come to the nursery during this time and find a way around the diversions. It will just mean allowing a little extra time for your journeys.

Thank you to hosts, the South West Orchid Society for putting on yet another super show at Taunton in March. Thank you also to those society members who provided plants for the Devon display and who supported the show on the day. Overall the society won 14 rosettes, including best in show for a Cattleya hybrid.
Devon Orchid Society will be taking part in the Cornwall Orchid Show at Chacewater, TR4 8PZ on 25th April 2026. The Society will also be hosting our own Annual Show on 2nd May at our new venue, America Hall, Pinhoe, Exeter, EX4 8PX. Please come along and support both shows if you can. Our next event will be a presentation on the World Orchid Conference held in Dresden in March 2026.
24th March – RHS Award Ceremony
Congratulations to Sara Rittershausen, our Society president, on being made an Associate of Honour of the RHS at an award ceremony in London in March 2026 in recognition of her distinguished service to the practice of horticulture during her working career. The Associate of Honour is held for life and Sara is one of only 100 recipients able at any one time to hold this prestigious award. Congratulation too to Nursery Manager, Arthur Bell on the award of the Westonbirt Orchid Medal in recognition of his life-long contribution to orchids during his 50 years of working for Burnham Nurseries.
